DIY ART – OMBRE WATERCOLOR

I’m super excited to share with you today an incredibly impressive but simple DIY for wall art. I discovered my love for watercolor in Sister Maryellen’s 11th grade art class and have sadly not picked up a paint brush since, until yesterday. I’ll never forget how those 45 minutes of art class took me away from my everyday high school happenings and lost me into the life of the canvas; it was such a nice release. With my new life as a stay at home mommy, I can finally afford a few extra minutes in my day and decided it was time to break out my painting supplies and try out a few strokes with the old brush.

I made a bunch of these ombre watercolors which look so awesome hanging up in white frames. The simplicity of the work required for these paintings is no reflection on how stunning they really are, the depth of the colors pop and it’s so much fun to try our different paints.

what you need:
watercolor paints 
watercolor paper
glass of water to dip your brush
paintbrush
a piece of wood or any hard surface to tape your paper to so that it doesn’t move with the strokes of your brush

what you do:
paint! Play with your paints to mix the perfect shade of your choice of color and start with horizontal strokes on the top. You’ll want to mix less water into the strokes so the paint is more concentrated and thus darker. As you stroke your brush horizontally down your paper, you’ll add more and more water to lighten the color and create the ombre effect.  

It’s that simple! 

And doesn’t it look so awesome!? I would love to do a whole study of color and hang multiple ombre paintings, something you might be inspired to do after your first 🙂 
Another great idea: Have an ombre painting party with your girlfriends on a Friday night and pop a bottle of bubbly while you work 🙂

We’re currently in Phase 1 of our Costa Rican ad We’re currently in Phase 1 of our Costa Rican adventure. This is the two week decompression period where we train our bodies and minds to slow down (this is more for me than anyone else), and let me tell you, I’m lapping it up.  We’re spending all day outside at the beach, going to bed early, eating lots of fresh fruit and healthy foods, swimming in the ocean, I’m working out and meditating in the mornings, and having fun together. For someone who is usually always in high gear, this part is my gift to myself 🐚 

We are staying at a beautiful place in papagayo with @exclusiveresorts and it feels very luxurious and restorative. 

The kids are already thriving. Being together 24/7 comes with its arguments and fights but they are learning how to just be with each other and with their crazy little brother. They’re helping a lot with him, learning a little Spanish, surfing, writing in their journals, and meeting kids from all over the world who are staying here as well. 

I’m letting us get pampered for this phase, and it feels really good.

Recently, I downloaded the Melissa Wood health app Recently, I downloaded the Melissa Wood health app @melissawoodtepperberg @melissawoodhealth and so far I’m loving the workouts. I try and do one every morning. They’re super quick so sometimes I do two. I like that they are gentle but hard. They incorporate a lots of yoga, pilates, breathing, stretching, balancing and all that good stuff. You can see from the videos I’m pretty shaky in the first couple clips, that balance is tough but I’m building up my strength, I can feel it 💪🏻
