HAPPY FRIDAY – woohoo! Today I’m going to talk to you about my experience with tape-in hair extensions from my visit to the Warren Tricomi salon in Greenwich yesterday. I was going to schedule this post for next week but so many of you had questions from my instagram stories so I thought I would jump right in.
First, I had no idea I was going to get them when I walked in, I thought I was going in for a much-needed trim. I spoke to my stylist Sara about how I was unhappy with the thickness of my hair and breakage from coloring. I wish I didn’t have to color but I’m about 50% gray so it’s not an option. She asked me if I ever wear extension and I do, usually just for events or photoshoots. That’s when she recommended I try the tape-in extensions. She is the extension specialist at the salon and she does it to all of her clients with thin hair. I’m up for anything so I signed right up. After my wash, she gave me an awesome blow out and then taped in the extensions (we used 5 in total, they come in packs of 4) which took all of five minutes, and then gave me a trim. I’m OBSESSED, my hair has never been thicker and prettier and it’s at a perfect length for styling. I went shorter than normal because I wanted a change but she said I could always come in for more if I wanted my length back.
You can carry on with your normal routine with the extensions in. Wash as often as you like, blow-dry, curl, flat iron, brush, color your roots, go swimming, etc…The only thing you don’t want to do is tug or pull at them during brushing because you could pull them down.
They last anywhere from 4-6 weeks depending on how fast your hair grows.
COST
price of hair is $150 a pack, most people get 2 packs because of color dimension and more hair is always better. Price for service of extensions which include haircut and style is $200-600 (most people are $400). You can re-use the hair once after getting the first application.
They last 4-6 weeks and sometimes 8 depending on hair growth. They are not damaging unless they are ripped out (which can happen from not taking care of them or brushing them)
The price is nothing to sniff at for sure, BUT if you’re in the market, this IS an option. I wish I knew about these for my wedding but they weren’t around then, or if they were, the quality is NOTHING compared to what it is today. I’m also in front of a camera a lot and I like my hair to look thick.
As a comparison, clip-in hair extensions start at around $180 but they come in and out, and you have to get good at those because if they show, you’re going to look like a hot mess, lol.
I saw Sara at Warren Tricomi for mine, she’s awesome. If you want to try them out and you’re local, go to her for sure. If not, call around your salons and see if they do them, and also ask to see pictures!
