There is nothing quite like bringing up all the storage bins and getting the excitement brewing for Christmas decorating. This year, I partnered with the British lifestyle brand The White Company to share our decorating traditions with you. It’s the first year that little Brian is really into it which makes it even more fun for us!! We start on the day after Thanksgiving by piling into the car and caravan-ing up to a Christmas tree farm with our whole extended family. It’s such a nice thing to do the day after Thanksgiving; we tailgate and all the kids run around while we hunt for the perfect tree.
We usually get the tree up that night and start by putting up the lights. Little Brian and Grace help me unpack the bins and we start putting all the trimmings around the house. We’ve got a whole mix of decorations, some old ones like the German smokers on the mantle that were passed down to me and ornaments that I remember from my childhood, and some new ones, like the ones I’m about to show you from The White Company. We listen to Christmas music, read Christmas stories, decorate a gingerbread house – all the fun Christmas traditions throughout the weekend. Our little Elf comes out, too, so that’s always fun! There is nothing like seeing the magic of Christmas through little Brian and Grace’s eyes; it’s so special.
For The Tree
I wanted a neutral tree, not too loud with color. We have tons of ornaments, but this year I chose to only put the white, pearl, beige, and simple ones on this tree. We have a tree in our family room that I put all the fun colorful kids’ ornaments on! I picked out these Cute Beaded Silver Snowflakes to add to our neutral collection this year.
For Our Mantle
I wanted a beautiful garland to go on our mantle and I loved the simplicity of the Cedar Leaf Garland. I put the German smokers with some little bottle-brush Christmas trees on top and I think it really dressed it up without looking overdone. Since we just finished the new mantle I definitely wanted to add decorations but not take away from the renovation. The Gray Fair Isle Christmas Stockings were PERFECT against the gray patterned cement tile; they are such nice quality and I’m thinking about having them monogrammed so we each have our own 🙂
For The Bar
I love decorating this bar cart for each holiday. I went with a Clark Griswold quote for the letter board and hung these pretty Lit Pinecone Christmas Fairy Garland over the top. It’s so fun to decorate this piece for every holiday!
I love the way the whole room came out, and even more the memories we made while getting it Christmas-ready!
