Hi Friends!! It’s been forever since I’ve sat down to really write a blog post and to be honest I’m not quite sure why that is because I love to write! Well now that I think about it I think it’s because a lot of reasons.
One, I’m launching Marea which is taking up a lot of time in the best way EVER. Marea is a clothing line inspired by life at the beach. It’s all the pieces I dream of wearing to the beach, around the house, in the garden, to happy hour with friends, to date night, to the pool, on the airplane, all. the. places. I am designing every single last detail of these pieces alongside some very talented fashion experts who I’ll be introducing to you soon! All of the clothing is being ethically made in India and I’m learning so much about the history, the processes and the culture in India. The pieces are hand-block printed which is the art of India, hence why we were producing it there. I am on the phone or on zoom every single day with our partners there, which is a whole new and exciting element to my day! We are going to later this year to meet with our partner factories and I am so excited for that!
Marea means tides in Italian and Spanish and I love the sound of the word, plus the meaning of the word “tide” : the alternate rising and falling of the sea, usually twice in each lunar day at a particular place, due to the attraction of the moon and sun. We are all so in sync with the moon and sun, like the tides, and I hope my pieces will evoke and inspire some of that natural feminine sense we all have of being in touch with nature, the peace and ease and flow you feel as you go about your day. Marea has been two years in the works if you can believe that, from the dreaming stages to now, the execution. I hope this brand will be the one that grows old with me, I hope I’m working on this when I’m 90 because it brings me that much joy. Please follow Marea on instagram, and sign up for our newsletter!
Okay that was just an intro, I’ll write a full post on Marea next time I write.
Two, I’ve been trying to keep up with instagram which is quite a demanding app let me tell you!! I’m an old dog when it comes to creating content and it’s been a journey learning all the new tricks that are painfully required to stay relevant these days. And as much as I’d like to say “eff it,” that would sort of be like giving up, and change and a challenge is good! And also to be frank, it’s my job 🤣 On a positive note, I do think I’ve gotten over the hump of learning short form video, a.k.a. reels so I’m in an easier flow with that which will hopefully free up some time to WRITE like the old days!!
And I guess part three of this explanation that no one asked for as to where I’ve been on my blog is … FAMILY! The happiest reason! I have from the hours of 9-3 Monday through Friday to work. My kids are BUSY and we are about to launch into spring sports which if you’re a parent of sports kids, you know that time suck. Brian will have basketball, flag football, and lacrosse clinics during the week, and lacrosse games on Saturday AND Sunday. Grace has gymnastics and soccer during the week, and then soccer and lacrosse on the weekends. Just typing that out sort of stresses me out 😬 I do love watching them play, but I’m sort of stressed with being able to watch all the games if they happen at the same time! Big Brian coaches Grace’s soccer and Brian’s lacrosse and I will step in for soccer as a coach if he can’t make it which is frightening. I ended my soccer career at age 5 when the coach yelled at me for running to the wrong goal, I faked an injury and sat with my mom on the sidelines eating the team oranges, true story. Luckily, there is another coach on the field who will probably tell me to just go back to the sidelines.
Another one taking up my attention, WILLIAM. This kid is a NUT! He is almost two and he is ON THE MOVE. You have to watch him like a hawk because he is a hazard to himself and all those around him. Not even exaggerating. I don’t know how he manages to make a danger zone out of every situation but he does, and he is quick so you can’t take your eyes off him or he’ll be down the street.
I think all of this to say, I wanted to connect with you for a bit today and give you a glimpse into the behind the scenes of my life these days. I am so grateful for my family, my friends, and my work. I am living the dream I always imagined for myself, but didn’t dream it could be this good. My favorite moments are those spent with my family, regardless of what we are doing, I just look at their faces and my heart swells up with joy. I love them so much, and I don’t know how I got so lucky to be their mom. And Brian, my rock, he’s the best.
The sun is coming up, I’m half way through my coffee. The kids will soon wake up and mosey downstairs, and we’ll start the day ☀️ Thank you for being here, for your interest in my life, for your support every day. You make this world possible for me and it’s not lost on me for a second. I’ll write again soon!
