A Day at the Beach

Usually when I plan our family photos I’m full of stress.  I know that sounds silly but I’m always worried about what we will all wear that will look nice in the photos, how the weather will be, how the kids will act, etc…When I scheduled this session with Jessica Lorren, I knew I wanted it to be really low key, we were on vacation and I just wanted our fun times on the beach to be recorded for our memory book.  We all met at the beach around sunset in the same bathing suits we wore that day and it was the first time I met Jessica. Of course I knew she was amazing because she was referred to us by our wedding photographer, Kat Braman, who I hold in the highest regard. She is seriously the cutest and SO nice to work with, and she shoots in film, how cool is that?! I sent her a couple of inspiration photos before hand and we chatted about how we wanted the session to just be raw, organic and nothing too “posed”. I honestly can’t believe the job she did, the photos came out INCREDIBLE, I cried when I first saw them. She just got us, you know?

I’m sure you’re not crying like I was, but can you kind of see how amazing these are?! I love how she captured us, Jessica, you’re my hero.

So, with all that said, I have some tips for planning your next photo session:

Do it at your favorite place, whether that be the playground, the beach, the park, in your house, wherever you have the most fun with your family.

Don’t stress about the outfits. Lately to me, the more real and authentic to you, the better, so if your son wants to wear a superhero outfit, go with it. If your daughter wants to wear a tutu with a hand-me-down sweater, go for it. You as the mom of course want to wear something that makes you feel your best and your husband, well the same applies for them.

Have some inspiration photos to show your photographer and have a brief honest conversation about what types of shots you want.

Most importantly, HAVE FUN and BE YOURSELVES. These are the memories you’re going to want to look back on and you’ll want to see the real expressions and emotions your little ones had in the moment 🙂

Jessica Lorren is actually moving up this way in the spring, and we’ve got some fun projects up our sleeves, and you’ll be included :)))))
