Sharing another holiday home decor post today featuring our living room fireplace. We are lucky to have two fireplaces in our home and decorating them for the holidays is my favorite. The one featured today got an upgrade two summers ago and I love the way it turned out.
There are a few custom choices we made with regard to the design. First the mantel is reclaimed wood from a lumber yard in Old Saybrook, CT. We drove there one day and took about 45 mins to get it right and it came out perfect. The tile was a bold choice with the pop of pattern and I really love how it looks especially next to the carrara marble hearth. We needed to have a raised design for the hearth because it wouldn’t have been possible to have it lay flat given how our floors are made. But I really like how it looks and it was so fun to see it all come together!
I choose to highlight and compliment the grey tones of the marble, tile and mantel when it came to decorating for the holidays. Eucalyptus is my favorite and I use it in almost all of my flower arrangements. So I created a simple yet beautiful garland on top of the mantle. This is the first year I am using bottle brush trees and I think they are so delicate and beautiful. They add just the right amount of festive touch. Because we don’t use this fireplace much, I convinced my dad and Brian to help me pile a load of logs to make it decorative. This is especially nice to have in the summer when we really aren’t using it. It also gives great texture and brings in natural elements to the room.
