WHAT I EAT IN A DAY / GOOD & BAD

20 Jun 2017 fitness, Recipes

One of the questions I am asked most often is what I eat in a day, and I wish I was some super fancy paleo healthy organic eater but I am just not. One day I will be! Truth is, most days I am so busy juggling work and motherhood that my diet gets pushed to the back burner. With that said, I do watch my figure and think I’ve gotten the portion control down so I’ll share what works to keep me on the fit/thin side. I’ve also started working out 4x/week so that helps a lot! I work out with Bradley Fitness 2x/week and hit the bootcamp classes at my gym 1 or 2x/week.

Breakfast:

Option 1: two eggs and a bite or two of Brian + Grace’s usually carb loaded breakfast of cereal, bagel, toast, oatmeal.

Option 2: a smaller version of Brian+Grace’s carb loaded breakfast. I usually eat their scraps ? << this is actually usually the case. On a good day I make eggs but it’s rare.

ALL THE COFFEE. I drink a cup in the morning with half&half.

Lunch:

Option 1 : Piece of ezekiel toast with turkey, avocado, arugula, tomatoes and a (La Croix) seltzer or a salad with protein.

Option 2 : Make myself what I’m making the kids, PB&J and fruit.

Snack:

Option 1 : apple, banana, any piece of fruit I have laying around.

Option 2 : granola bar, something easy on the go, raisins, goldfish, piece of cheese

ALL THE COFFEE. This is usually when I have my second round of coffee usually in iced form! I buy the concentrate from Trader Joe’s and mix it with water and half&half (no sugar)

Dinner:

This really varies but could be anything from rice bowls (see my recipe here), pasta with bolognese (recipe here), cheeseburger, grilled chicken with veggies, tacos. I cook as healthy as I can but this is the meal I really cook for my family so if it’s not super healthy I usually just eat until I’m satisfied and try not to overeat. If we’re having cheeseburgers for instance, I eat it without the bun and make a salad instead of having fries with it. I don’t fill my bowl to the top with spaghetti, I try to eat the serving size and then make a really healthy salad to have with it, for tacos I usually make a taco salad instead of having the flour tortilla, you get the drift…

Dessert:

I have to have something sweet every night ? I am who I am. Again, I practice portion control here and have as little as possible. Last night I had an ice cream cone filled just to the top of the cone with my mom’s homemade strawberry ice cream. Brian laughs at me but I just can’t help it!! So I figure if I take the bun off my cheeseburger I can have the ice cream?! You only live once whatever.

Drinks:

I don’t drink my calories unless it’s alcohol, lol. I drink coffee with no sugar, a little cream, though. I don’t drink soda, diet or regular. I drink water and seltzer. I can’t live without rosé and red wine so I drink those in moderation.

Variables:

When I’m at the pool and I want to have a popsicle with my kids, I have it. If I’m dying for a glass of rosé on a Tuesday (i.e. every Tuesday, I let myself have it). If I want to go to Shake Shack with my family and eat whatever I want off the menu, I let myself. If my mom and I go to the Whelk for lobster rolls and fries, I eat it. I try not to make a habit of the bad stuff but at the same time I don’t deprive myself when the mood is right. AND I don’t over-eat to the point I feel sick with a stomach ache.

And that’s about it!! I hope that answers some of your questions and if you want to ask me anything else, please feel free!!

We’re currently in Phase 1 of our Costa Rican ad We’re currently in Phase 1 of our Costa Rican adventure. This is the two week decompression period where we train our bodies and minds to slow down (this is more for me than anyone else), and let me tell you, I’m lapping it up. We’re spending all day outside at the beach, going to bed early, eating lots of fresh fruit and healthy foods, swimming in the ocean, I’m working out and meditating in the mornings, and having fun together. For someone who is usually always in high gear, this part is my gift to myself 🐚

We are staying at a beautiful place in papagayo with @exclusiveresorts and it feels very luxurious and restorative.

The kids are already thriving. Being together 24/7 comes with its arguments and fights but they are learning how to just be with each other and with their crazy little brother. They’re helping a lot with him, learning a little Spanish, surfing, writing in their journals, and meeting kids from all over the world who are staying here as well.

I’m letting us get pampered for this phase, and it feels really good.

Thanks for coming along, I hope your year is off to an amazing start! Is there anything specific you’d like me to share about while we’re in this phase? I was thinking about sharing my morning workouts and meditations, but let me know!
Recently, I downloaded the Melissa Wood health app Recently, I downloaded the Melissa Wood health app @melissawoodtepperberg @melissawoodhealth and so far I’m loving the workouts. I try and do one every morning. They’re super quick so sometimes I do two. I like that they are gentle but hard. They incorporate a lots of yoga, pilates, breathing, stretching, balancing and all that good stuff. You can see from the videos I’m pretty shaky in the first couple clips, that balance is tough but I’m building up my strength, I can feel it 💪🏻
