Fall Family Bucket List

Fall Family Bucket List

Sweater | Jeans | Boots

This weekend we are starting to cross things off our Fall family bucket list!  The Joy’s took a trip to Cooperstown, NY to meet up with Brian’s family and go apple picking.  This is something we look forward to doing each Fall and thankfully this weekend is going to be the perfect weather for outdoor activities like this.

Although I see these all over the internet, I really do love the idea of a Fall family bucket list.  It helps us think about fun things we can do together as a family and the kids love to cross things off the list once we complete each one.  If we don’t do something like this, we can easily get in a rut of doing our same ole same activities.  So this challenges us to think of new and exciting ways to enjoy the season and each year it evolves as the kids grow older.

FALL FASHION AT J.CREW

Below I am sharing a look at our Fall family bucket list and featuring a number of new items I just got in from J.Crew.  As you all know, J.Crew is basically my go to for everything.  I kept finding amazing items this summer and their Fall styles are catching my eye too!

I love seeing how they create classic styles with a bit of a twist that includes trending elements like this leopard blazer I’ve previously shared.  It’s such a great piece and leopard is definitely in right now, but I think it’s just done so well and looks really chic.  Today started an amazing 48-hour flash sale at  J.CrewYou can get 30% off your purchase + an extra 10% off online only using code “HIFALL” at checkout.  Checkout my current picks at the bottom of this post! I am so excited about their Fall collection and wanted to share how I styled some of their new pieces.

First, is this  cashmere v-neck sweater is SO soft and lightweight so a perfect sweater to transition from now to Fall and then Winter.  It’s such a classic look and it comes in 10 different colors! Then, these high-rise jeans are super flattering making your legs look elongated.  I love the button-fly detail with a good front tuck. I paired these beautiful tan suede booties and love the slight Western flare they give.

Top | Jeans | Leopard Mules

Another classic look for Fall and one of my favorite tops year after year is their best selling tissue turtleneck.  I grab for this top more often than not as it can be worn so many ways.  On its own, tucked into a skirt or worn as a layer, it’s always in style.  Then to add a pop I went with these Leopard Mules which are so cute and comfortable.  It almost feels like you are wearing slippers!

 JOY FAMILY FALL BUCKET LIST

1. Apple Picking / Make An Apple Pie

This alone with #3 is such a staple activity for us in the Fall.  I hope the kids never stop wanting to do this with us as I really cherish the tradition.  If you are in Fairfield county the below are a few great spots to go apple picking.  Then, I plan to make this apple cake recipe or a new apple pie recipe with my mom and Grace!

2. Cozy Up Your Home

While this will probably be something I do, with Brian’s help (#brianhangsthings), my family definitely will all benefit.  Decorating for Fall is one of my favorite times as it means cozy blankets, warm tones, different textures, and diffusing up a bunch of my favorite Fall blends.  Making our house comfortable and welcoming for when the kids get home from school is something I find important and hope creates a lasting feeling for them.

3. Visit A Pumpkin Patch / Take A Hayride

We love to visit Jones Family Farms when it’s pumpkin picking season.  They have so many activities this time of year including hayrides, a corn maze and they even have a winery for those wanting to end the day on a sweet note 🙂

4. Backyard S’mores Party

S’mores aren’t just for summer! I love getting all the blankets together and cozying up to make s’mores in the backyard.  This has been SO fun with the kids now that they are a little bit older.  We have this fire column and love it for our deck!

5. Halloween Movie Night

We love to watch movie’s together on the couch on the weekends. It’s my favorite downtime activity to do with the kids. They are just at the right ages for movies where they don’t get distracted and run off half way through 🤣We love watching all the halloween specials on TV, and favorites like like Hocus Pocus, Casper, It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown, Room On The Broom (really cute for toddlers and super short), Halloweentown, and this year I want to introduce them to the Adams Family! Also, make a fun halloween popcorn to go with the movie, like this!

6. Make Your Favorite Fall Meals

I love, love, cozy comfort meals. I can’t wait to experiment this fall with new soup recipes, chili recipes, all sorts of all day braising, and all the autumn veggies!

7. Carve a Pumpkin

Kind of a given, but had to be said! This is probably my favorite fall activity of them all! Love setting up on the back porch and carving out pumpkins with the kids. We usually wait until Halloween day to do this, and then light them up at night!

8. Make a Spooky Dessert

We went to a Halloween party last year that had the CUTEST chocolate graveyard cake! I have a picture somewhere in my archives but here is one from Pinterest for inspiration:

9. Go the Halloween Blaze

I have always wanted to take the kids to this amazing event in NY.  They have a display of more than 7,000 illuminated jack o’lanterns that are all designed and hand-carved on site by their team of artisans.  This year they are featuring a 25-foot-tall jack o’lantern resembling the Statue of Liberty! Should be a really fun way to get in the Halloween spirit.

10. Host A Halloween Playdate For Brian & Grace

Each year they ask to wear their Halloween costumes almost everyday.  So I thought it might be fun to find another excuse for them to dress up and invite their close friends over for a little Halloween themed playdate.  We can bob for apples, decorate a pumpkin together and play outside in the leaves. I know they will love this and it’s another excuse to have friends over!

Would love to know what is on your Fall family bucket list!
