Family Fun Nights

4 May 2020 Family

When we brought William home I was desperate to make the others happy. They were SO excited the first day or two, but then the reality set in and the vibe changed. I had this extreme guilt that they were taking the adjustment hard, and all I wanted was to make them happy. I don’t know if other moms can relate, but that was emotionally the hardest part for me and it brought me to tears nearly everyday that first week. We talked about it a lot and we’re still dealing with some adjustments, but everyday gets better and better.

One thing we’ve been aiming to do once per week is having a “family fun night” to keep the spirits high, especially now in quarantine! We usually have popcorn, play games, order a pizza and watch a movie. We are loving the games UNO and Headbanz and it’s so great to get the good belly laughs in!

One thing my kids absolutely LOVE to do is set up “camp” in our living room for a movie. We grab all of our comforters, pillows and sheets, pile them up in the living room and make forts and beds until everyone gets comfortable. We have so much fun in the process, and we let them run wild with what they create.

Their bedding is from The Company Store, and we surprised them with it when we moved into our rental home and they absolutely love it!! I wanted their bedrooms in the new space to feel really special, and again, to ease with the transition (yes, there are lots of them around here!). It was something exciting for them to see and I love all the bright colors. Their particular sets also make for the perfect fort-making material, plus, the White Sale is running now through the end of June and is up to 20% Off sitewide!

For Brian we went with the Aiden Stripe Percale Kids Sheets in Pacific Blue with the Forest Campers Organic Cotton Percale Duvet Cover and Sham and I love the combo! It’s so happy and reminds us of one of our favorite family activities, camping! I can’t wait until the weather gets warm again to do that – we did it for the first time in our backyard last summer and it was sooo cute. Although I did go inside at 4 am.

For Grace, we kept with the animal theme and went with the Starlight Percale Bedding in Pink, and the Furry Friends Percale Kids Duvet which she LOVES.

Family Fun Nights are truly our favorite nights around here, tell me, how are you keeping your kids happy these days!?

We’re currently in Phase 1 of our Costa Rican ad We’re currently in Phase 1 of our Costa Rican adventure. This is the two week decompression period where we train our bodies and minds to slow down (this is more for me than anyone else), and let me tell you, I’m lapping it up. We’re spending all day outside at the beach, going to bed early, eating lots of fresh fruit and healthy foods, swimming in the ocean, I’m working out and meditating in the mornings, and having fun together. For someone who is usually always in high gear, this part is my gift to myself 🐚

We are staying at a beautiful place in papagayo with @exclusiveresorts and it feels very luxurious and restorative.

The kids are already thriving. Being together 24/7 comes with its arguments and fights but they are learning how to just be with each other and with their crazy little brother. They’re helping a lot with him, learning a little Spanish, surfing, writing in their journals, and meeting kids from all over the world who are staying here as well.

I’m letting us get pampered for this phase, and it feels really good.

Thanks for coming along, I hope your year is off to an amazing start! Is there anything specific you’d like me to share about while we’re in this phase? I was thinking about sharing my morning workouts and meditations, but let me know!
Recently, I downloaded the Melissa Wood health app Recently, I downloaded the Melissa Wood health app @melissawoodtepperberg @melissawoodhealth and so far I’m loving the workouts. I try and do one every morning. They’re super quick so sometimes I do two. I like that they are gentle but hard. They incorporate a lots of yoga, pilates, breathing, stretching, balancing and all that good stuff. You can see from the videos I’m pretty shaky in the first couple clips, that balance is tough but I’m building up my strength, I can feel it 💪🏻
