Feeding William | Introducing Solids & Textures

SOLIDS! The high chair adventures have officially begun. New tastes, exploring with spoons, wearing a bib, it’s all new for him and feels sort of new for us because a. it’s been a while, and b. all kids are different! The thing I’ve been loving about this new feeding stage is how much more part of the group William feels when he can sit near the dinner table or at the counter and eat. It’s been really fun having William be part of our family’s mealtimes more. I can tell the big kids enjoy it too, and it’s been some fun bonding time for them.

William has been having trouble, albeit it’s much better lately in the past 2-3 weeks, with texture. For many months I was pureeing everything. I like to make big batches of food for him once or twice per week and include lots of fresh veggies and a protein. I also love the organic pouches like Beechnut, Plum, and others.

We love his high chair for so many reasons! I like the way it looks, it blends right into our kitchen which is a huge plus. It has a removable pad that you can put in the washing machine, and the tray is easy to remove and clean (I usually run it under hot water and use my thieves dish soap on it). The high chair also adjusts and grows with your child, all the way up into a regular seat!

Our go-to meal is organic chicken thighs, sweet and yellow potatoes, and then some greens. We’ve done everything from Swiss chard to peas, broccoli, kale, and other green veggies. He loves it. I boil it all until cooked through, and then puree it in my ninja bullet. Then I store his meal portions in little containers and either freeze or refrigerate them. He has these meals at lunch and dinner.

For breakfast I usually do oatmeal and fruit. I’m starting to do the instant oats because they are smaller and I heat them up with milk and add pureed fruit. Everything from apples, berries, etc. Oh, and yogurt! I feed him whole milk greek yogurt and he loves it. Full belly, happy baby, happy mama. Here are some of the feeding items that have been making William’s feeding journey a little easier.
