How I Met My Mister

28 Jun 2017 Uncategorized

Brian and I went to a beautiful wedding this past weekend in Vermont, congrats Brett & Courtney! We had such a great time getting away for a bit and it had me thinking about sharing the story on how we met <3

It was 2007. I was living the single life in NYC for about a year after college with two roommates. We were having a ball but my heart was always in Connecticut. I loved the city and wanted to be nowhere else when I graduated but about a year in and I was kind of like…over it? I wanted to be back by the beach, I missed the trees, my car, big grocery stores, and my mom 5 minutes away (I guess I’m a bit of a homebody). I was home for Labor Day weekend and out and about for a friend’s birthday downtown. We walked into a bar and my eyes immediately met this tall handsome guy wearing a surfer tee at the bar. Well, that was it. He came over and we immediately hit it off. We were glued at the hip the entire night, dancing and chatting until the bar establishment closed. Irresponsibly I’ll admit, I convinced my BFF who was with me that my new friend Brian was going to drive us home. Brian drove us back to my parents house and was blasting Phil Collins “Sussudio” (which if you’ve ever seen American Psycho) … you can imagine my friend was freaking out but I was blissfully holding hands with Brian and singing out the window. When we got to my parents house, he asked if he could come in to use the bathroom (I totally believed this) and he ended up staying for hours. We JUST talked *promise* until 4 AM, no making out, nothing! I kind of knew he was a good one so I wanted to save it.

The next night we went out for dinner to Rowayton Seafood, and that was it. We had such a good time and had such chemistry. We spent the entire next day together, and the day after that. For the rest of that year, I finished out my lease in my NYC apartment and he was in Darien so we saw each other as much as possible. Usually a few times during the week I would commute from his place and he would commute from mine. It was total bliss and we haven’t stopped having fun since.

I would say having FUN is definitely something we put an emphasis on. It’s when we connect deeply as a couple so whenever we have the opportunity to do something we love, we take it. Sometimes we go across the street to play tennis, sometimes we drive to another city to see our favorite band. Of course most of the fun happens at home with our kids, but we do see the value in spending time alone and we invest in amazing babysitters so we can have that time.

I’m so lucky I went out to that bar that night, I always wonder what would have happened had I not!? Thank you, Rosa, the birthday girl who brought me out, and to Brian’s friends who brought him out that night! #allthehearteyes

Here is what I wore to the wedding! one-shoulder black romper (comes in two other colors!) / shoes (literally the only dressy shoes I own because they go with everything!) / strapless bra / simple choker

I remember our first kitchen, we rented an apartme I remember our first kitchen, we rented an apartment on a second floor and MAN that thing was ugly. Not a redeeming quality about it 🙈 The old stained cabinet doors were so musty, the fake wood formica and yellow tile backsplash, I wish I had a picture of that thing!!

The thing I’ve realized many kitchens later > little things can have a HUGE impact. Maybe it’s the marble tray next to the sink that holds your pretty soap container and wooden scrubber, or the white vintage bread container — these little additions can represent your true style even when you can’t completely make over the space. It’s an affordable way to spruce up your environment which can have a positive effect on your mood!

Hi! You may have heard me talk about a scary onlin Hi! You may have heard me talk about a scary online experience that happened to little Brian last year. During quarantine he started interacting with some of his friends and classmates on an app that had a chat feature. At first we liked it because the kids were using creativity and staying touch while everyone was home. We made sure all of the parental controls were on and settings private. One day Brian started getting emotional and said he wanted to take some time off the tablet iPad. We started talking about the issue more and he mentioned that a stranger sent him a message. It said “hello” and that person started to bother him in the game. I started to do some research and found there are ways for predators get in through third party apps. We want to share this experience because we have teamed up with Google to encourage you to have tech talk with your kids so we can all be safer online and build healthy tech habits.

In honor of Safer Internet Day earlier this month, we have been using the Google Be Internet Awesome program as a resource and found that the brave pillar of the program has really helped Brian start to navigate the online world with confidence. If you haven’t had the tech talk with your children yet, it’s never too early to start to teach them good internet habits. I’m sharing more in stories today with some swipe ups to the program. But I’d love to hear how you’ve been approaching the tech talk with your family.
