How I’m Incorporating Fitness This Summer

For most of my life I dreaded any sort of physical exertion. If I could take slow leisurely stroller walks a couple times a week, or dunk in the ocean and swim for a couple of minutes, I’d be good. I played tennis for my entire childhood and in high school, and while I loved it and found the competition exhilarating, I remember LOVING getting rained out so I had a day off of effort 🥴

Although my ideal is a bit more leisure as described above, I never wanted to get to a state of being unhealthy for lack of movement, i.e. being out of breath for climbing stairs, losing shape in my body, or not being able to chase my kids around the yard. I really like the feeling of being in good physical shape, I LOVE how I feel after a workout, I just lacked the motivation dreaded the exercise part. Turns out, what I was doing was BORING for me. I’ve done everything … at home bikes, running, weights, personal trainer, etc… I always love it for a time, but then drop it like a bad habit the minute I get out of a routine.

These days, I’m actually REALLY enjoying the exercise part! I am OBSESSED with a local cycling studio, JOYride, and aim to go three times per week. The rides are FUN, challenging, and motivating. The music gets me, it SO GOOD and feels like a dance party, and the sweat is like no other!! I love the feeling I get before, during and after class — I think that’s the key to getting me there. I also have an at home bike that I can do on my off days to keep me moving and it comes with strength classes. While not as fun as the actual studio, some days I can’t get there and this works in perfect tandem.

I’m also playing tennis again and it’s SO FUN! One of my sweet neighbors organized a group clinic and we go once per week. It feels so good to hit the ball again and it’s also just a fun social break to the day. I’d love to play a little more in the fall so going to try and join a local league.

For now, this is what I’m up to – how about you?!?!
