How To Style The Perfect Holiday Card

25 Nov 2019 Shopping Guides, Style

Thank you Vistaprint for sponsoring this post.  As always, all thoughts & opinions are my own.

We recently took family photos to use for our holiday cards this year. It has been three years since we last took family photos and I’m so happy we did it because they will be such great memories to look back on year after year. Coordinating schedules and outfits, and also getting young kids to cooperate isn’t the easiest of tasks so I thought I’d share some tips for your family holiday cards!

Coordinating Outfits

Choosing outfits for the whole family is a lot of work, but it can also be a fun challenge. I recommend choosing a color palette you like and looking at your favorite retailers to see which outfits compliment one another.  You can create a simple Pinterest board or if you know how to use Canva or photoshop, you can even create a collage. This will give you a visual to help see what works and what doesn’t. If that’s not your thing, you can reference this blog post with full product details and inspiration on what we wore this year. I think the most important thing to remember here is coordinate but don’t match. It’ll make shopping a heck of a lot easier!

Family Photoshoots

As crazy and stressful as these can be just remember it’s SO worth it in the end.  We take a lot of family photos so my kids have practice but if yours don’t, remember three things. 1) Give them a good meal or hearty snack beforehand. HANGRY doesn’t look good. 2)  Have low expectations. Candid photos are my favorite so try and just have fun as a family together and let the photographer capture the moments. 3) Magic hour (or golden hour) is THE best time to take photos. It’s the window of daylight shortly after sunrise or right before sunset. It’ll give you that glow because the sun is low.

Oh, and maybe one last thing. BRIBERY. Take it out, use it, love it.

Once we got our photos back from the photographer, I was able to quickly upload them to the site and start the design process. Anytime I had an issue or question I was able to resolve it in no time with their CARE customer service team.  I chose the JOY theme (have to!) and they came out great! I also ordered these adorable custom mugs. These will make great gifts for grandparents this holiday season.

We’re currently in Phase 1 of our Costa Rican ad We’re currently in Phase 1 of our Costa Rican adventure. This is the two week decompression period where we train our bodies and minds to slow down (this is more for me than anyone else), and let me tell you, I’m lapping it up. We’re spending all day outside at the beach, going to bed early, eating lots of fresh fruit and healthy foods, swimming in the ocean, I’m working out and meditating in the mornings, and having fun together. For someone who is usually always in high gear, this part is my gift to myself 🐚

We are staying at a beautiful place in papagayo with @exclusiveresorts and it feels very luxurious and restorative.

The kids are already thriving. Being together 24/7 comes with its arguments and fights but they are learning how to just be with each other and with their crazy little brother. They’re helping a lot with him, learning a little Spanish, surfing, writing in their journals, and meeting kids from all over the world who are staying here as well.

I’m letting us get pampered for this phase, and it feels really good.

Thanks for coming along, I hope your year is off to an amazing start! Is there anything specific you’d like me to share about while we’re in this phase? I was thinking about sharing my morning workouts and meditations, but let me know!
Recently, I downloaded the Melissa Wood health app Recently, I downloaded the Melissa Wood health app @melissawoodtepperberg @melissawoodhealth and so far I’m loving the workouts. I try and do one every morning. They’re super quick so sometimes I do two. I like that they are gentle but hard. They incorporate a lots of yoga, pilates, breathing, stretching, balancing and all that good stuff. You can see from the videos I’m pretty shaky in the first couple clips, that balance is tough but I’m building up my strength, I can feel it 💪🏻
