Kids Room Planning

Hi Friends!! So excited to share a little inspiration with you on the kids rooms in the new house. I haven’t delved into the nursery yet but am in full blown planning mode for Brian and Grace. As a first time “home renovator”, the process is A LOT, and everything is SO.FREAKING.EXPENSIVE. While budgeting, I really wanted to spend more on the permanent fixtures of the house like the tile choices, adding millwork like shiplap and board and batten, custom kitchen cabinets, etc… This is the stuff that is built into the home and makes it truly “custom”. I remember our builder telling us if you turn your home upside down and shake it, what stays is what you should invest in. What you add is where you can save. If you have a good eye, and another good eye like I have in my friend Gaelle (@gldesignhome) you can get amazing, quality looking pieces for so much less than pulling everything from a showroom or being made custom.

I was SO excited to put these room inspirations together from Walmart. Guys, I promise if you were to look at this design board at first glance there is no way you would say, “oh, that’s a cheap room”. No way, this looks like high end to me! What do you think?

Walmart has been SO good lately with their home decor! I own both of the kids’ beds right now from Walmart and they are awesome. I was so excited to find this new dresser for Brian, it looks great and I love that I can get him a matching nightstand. He currently owns this bed in a twin, but we’re going to get the full for his new room. Being by the beach, we might be doing fans in all the bedrooms and this one looks awesome. This tea-stained American flag will be perfect hanging above his bed, don’t you think?? I also thought the wire baskets would be great handing on the wall to hold his books, and maybe some cups with art supplies inside.

Okay so I’m also kind of obsessed with Grace’s room! I want her room to be something she’ll grow into so I steered away from unicorns and rainbows 😬 I’ll add those items in places that she wants like stuffies on her bed and in her cozy corner but I want the bones of the room to be classic and beautiful. Drew Barrymore’s line at Walmart is awesome and a lot of this is sourced from that. The art is great, and that pink pouf is 🙌🏻 Drew Barrymore also has a line dedicated for kids which is SO cute called Flower Kids!

I have to say, there is nothing quite as satisfying as someone coming into our home and asking where I got this or that, and the shock on their face when I say a value place like Walmart is just priceless. They have made it so easy to have the designer look for so much less!
