Laundry Room Makeover

laundry room makeover

One of the most exciting but smaller projects we have done is our laundry room makeover.  It’s right off our garage so it actually serves as a mudroom AND laundry room.  It stores most of the un-pretty items like our shoes, laundry build up, and a landing place for the items heading out and coming into the house.  But when this space is clean, it’s one of my favorite little spaces in our home!  Our recent refresh we did in this space makes me so happy and the before + afters are the best.

BEFORE

Bad right?? But SO much potential!! You can imagine how much I wanted to get my hands on it for the two years it looked like this but I’m so glad I waited it out because now it’s PERFECT! When we remodeled our first floor kitchen and family room this past year, I squeezed in this little side project.  I had a pretty clear vision for what I wanted it to look like and it was at the tail end of the project so the budget was tight! We were able to work with our contractor on doing the most minimal work to make a big impact!

AFTER

Such a HUGE difference and again on a super tight budget.  You can find so many ways to give rooms in your house a little refresh even if you are on a budget. I did research to find the decor items I loved and was able to take my time as this was the last part of our larger remodel. I chose finishes to compliment the bold design of the floor tile, the clean look of the trim on the walls and bench.  To save money, we also just painted our existing cabinets over the washer/dryer and upgraded the pulls.

DESIGN DETAILS

My favorite feature of this room is the tile.  We got this tile from the Cement Tile Shop and I really love the way it turned out.  I’m obsessed with the look of cement tile, it really pops.  Tile is such an easy way to add a really bold look to a room without needing to spend a lot especially in smaller spaces.  We had our contractor build the built in bench, which is perfect for when the kids need to put on and take off their shoes.  I added a few pillows for layering that I got from Kirklands and another from one of my favorite pillow shops, the Danielle Oakey Shop (linked similar pillow).

WALL DECOR

Whenever I show a picture of this room, people want to know about the wall signs.  I am slowly adding wall decor to make sure I really like the pieces.  The first one I got was this Laundry & Co. sign (linked similar as mine is sold out).  I found a cute “house rules” (linked similar here) sign from Michaels that is a good reminder as we all walk out the front door each day.  Then yesterday, I came across my friend who had this growth chart that I absolutely needed to have once I saw it.  I can’t believe we don’t have something like this yet.  When it comes in I think it will be perfect in this room and we can cherish that forever.  To round out the decor I kept it simple by adding a little bit of greenery, hooks for the kids backpacks/coats and lots of baskets (like these and these) for storing items I use everyday.
