My 5-Minute Flower Arrangement

Life & Style blogger, Liz Joy, shares a 5-minute flower arrangement. Quick and easy tips for making a beautiful arragement.

Today I am sharing a 5-Minute Flower Arrangement idea!

I love having fresh flowers in our home.  I look forward to waking up, walking down the stairs to make my coffee and passing by the bright, vibrant colors of a beautiful arrangement.  It always brings a smile to my face.  So much so that it has become a staple on my weekly Trader Joe’s grocery list.  I always find that they have a wide variety of really fresh and beautiful flowers that come at a good price and given I am already there it helps that it’s a one-stop-shop.

You may have noticed I incorporate floral arrangements pretty frequently in my content both on the blog and Instagram.  I hope that by including them you look at the image and experience the same little happiness I do when I see them in person.  Over the years I have really perfected my preferred arrangement style and have nailed it down to under 5 minutes from start to finish.  I thought it might be something fun to share to those who may not know how or want a quick and easy way to bring real flowers into their home.

5-MINUTE FLOWER ARRANGEMENT

Step 1: Selection

Choose your flowers and vase.  I really love how blush pink roses look with eucalyptus (my go to combo).  I have collected a number of vases throughout the years (Brian is good at remembering to give flowers for special occasions) and it’s helpful to have them on hand whenever I need them.

Step 2: Remove leaves below water line

Depending on what flower you choose (again I almost always choose roses) remove the leaves from the stems.  You can do this easily with scissors or just pull them off.  The reason you want to do this is because they can contaminate the vase water if you leave them on.  I also like to have a clean look so despite the negative effects, I would remove them anyways to allow more room for the filler (eucalyptus).

Step 3:  Trim

I obviously will trim the end of the flowers to fit the vase I choose but I also read that you should cut them on an angle so they have a greater surface area to soak up the water in the vase.  This will help the rose last longer and keep the petals from drooping or falling off sooner than they should.  This might take the longest time as I eyeball how much I need to trim, test it out in the vase and adjust if necessary.  I will not trim the eucalyptus at this time (see below).

Step 4:  Water

Pour warm water into the vase about 3/4 of the height.  Keep an eye on the water throughout the week and change it every 2-3 days when you see it getting dirty.  If your flowers came with a food pack you can add that now too or I’ve also heard that you can add sugar to help the flowers last longer (has anyone else heard this?!).

Step 5:  Tape Vase

This is my pro-tip!  If you tape the vase like tic-tac-toe it will help to keep the flowers in place when it comes time to arrange.

Step 6: Arrange

Once the vase is taped I will add the roses (or feature flower) first and then add in the eucalyptus trimming as I go as again I want to make sure it fills out the vase nicely.  I like to have these hanging over the vase a bit to give it a more full look.

Step 7:  Enjoy!

Seriously, you will be so proud of yourself for doing this (and so fast!) and it will bring warmth and smiles into your home!
