Hello Friends!! Comin’ atcha from the train into New York City on this dreary, rainy day about to meet my dear friend Liz for dinner!! It’s been so long since I’ve seen her and I can’t wait! I promised you my makeup routine as you’ve been seeing me wear some more lately in stories lately (mostly for photos or on the spontaneous days I decide to get made up!).
I don’t wear a full face of makeup too often, but when I’m going out with friends or getting ready for photos, etc… I like to wear it, it makes me feel put together and a little elevated if you will. For everyday makeup, I like to try and stick to my favorite non-toxic line, Savvy Minerals from Young Living, but when I need a little extra, these are my go-to’s.
I’m SUPER picky with my products and like even my “done-up” look to feel pretty natural. This makeup routine is TRIED and TRUE and most of these products I’ve been using for YEARS so I have full confidence recommending them to you. You’ll get the bang for your buck, trust.
Foundation + Cover Up
Primer
Primer is ESSENTIAL. You absolutely need to be using a makeup primer and I only started using one within the past two years. It gives you a layer that “primes” your skin for foundation so that the makeup can do its work without seeping into your skin via your pores and makes it look so much better. There are two primers that I love. One is Savvy Minerals Hydrating Primer but it’s currently out of stock. As soon as it comes back I will let you know! Even if you’re not really into the whole natural makeup thing I’m telling you this primer is LEGIT.
The second primer I use religiously is Tula’s Face Filter. It gives you a teeny bit of coverage so you can even wear it on its own, but also really primes the skin for your foundation application.
I also apply the Rose Glow + Get it Cooling and Brightening Balm as a first step before makeup to wake my tired eyes up!
*You can use my code PUREJOY for 20% off your order at Tula!
Foundation
My skin is all over the place, redness, freckles, sun damage, fine lines, you name it (aging is awesome). I for sure like a full coverage foundation but nothing that feels too sticky or, “piled on” my skin. There is NO foundation that comes close to Christian Dior’s Forever Skin Glow for me. I have tried tons and I love the coverage this gives me, and also the GLOW 🙌🏻 It gives your skin a beautiful and subtle shine which makes me feel more youthful. I use the color 2 Neutral.
Cover-Up
I use this under my eyes to cover dark circles, and if I have a zit. I really like Tarte Shape Tape in Light Medium. I apply it with a beauty blender (comes as a set together) and go all over my eyes 🙌🏻 The other one I have tried is It Cosmetics but it was way too thick and pasty for me!
Eyes
Eyeliner and Eyeshadow
I keep it pretty simple for my eyes. I use this Naked palette for my eye liner and I play around with all the different shades in there for the eyeshadow, nice to have a two-in-one situation! I’ve had it for two years which is probably not good (bacteria?) but the thing lasts forever! I use a tiny super thin brush, wetted under the sink, to apply an “eye-liner” and then the brush it comes with for the eye shadow.
Lashes
I’ve been using this serum from Amazon to grow my lashes and HOLY MOLY, stuff works. I was debating lash extensions but then remembered the time I got them and hated them. I felt weird with them on, and they also tore out my real lashes. This is SO much better, and probably a lot better for your eyes!!
I need a lash primer, anyone have any recommendations? I’ve heard Lash Food is great! Leave in the comments. For mascara I’ve been using this Better than Sex one but I find it gets a little clumpy so I’m looking for a smoother one. LMK.
Brows
I bought this brow fluffer and shaper from Glossier and it’s amazing!! I love it!
Contouring and Blush
I had my makeup done this year at the rewardStyle conference and Jordan Rea (best makeup girl EVER) used the Cocoa Contour Contouring and Highlighting Palette on my face. I immediately bought it and love it. I do a quick swoop right over my cheek bones, following the natural shadow of my face, and then out the lightest shade down my nose. If you’re more into contouring, there’s a lot more that you can do with this palette.
For blush I use the Tarte Amazonian Clay in the color Seduce. I really like it.
Lips
I’m always changing this up but for now I’m really liking this lip crayon by Trestique in the color Florence Fig. I got it in a Fab Fit Fun box and just rediscovered it the other day! Love when that happens!
Extra Glow
If I’m feeling like I need a little extra glow, I like this compact from Becca in the color Champagne Pop. It’s very subtle and does the job! Another product I discovered through Jordan!
I think that’s it!
If you have any questions, leave them for me in the comments of this post!
