SO excited for today’s post! I have been wanting to share something this for so long as I always get requests for capsule wardrobe ideas. I have been loving the items I’ve recently purchased for spring/summer and when I looked at all I had I saw SO many different combinations of outfits that I thought would be helpful to share for this capsule.
If you aren’t familiar with a capsule, the idea is that you think of these items as key essentials that support your own personal style and are easy to build upon/mix and match to maximize your wardrobe. I like to start with investing in timeless, quality pieces (think denim, bags, shoes, jacket) and then you can always add in more trendy or fun items (like tops, accessories, etc.) depending on what you are currently loving.
Some things to keep in mind when shopping:
It may take time to build your capsule. None of this was bought in one trip (though you could do that too!). I have items that have lasted me years and then some more recent purchases that were investment pieces that I know I will wear season after season. I try to stay with pieces that are of a complimentary palette so it’s easy to mix and match items to create new looks. You can always evolve your look. What works for you one year may not the next so don’t feel like it’s set in stone once you have the items you need. I love to evolve my style (and love that it’s my job to!) so definitely have fun with this! It should hopefully take the pressure off to always be buying what’s being shared here on the internet. Sometimes you can feel just as confident and beautiful by dressing in items you already own in your closet.
Here is my “master list” of the essentials any person will need in their closet this spring:
- 1 Jean Jacket and/or Utility Jacket
- 2-3 pairs of really good denim (ideally some non-distressed options as well as distressed as well as white denim)
- 2-3 pairs of shorts (I love a denim pair and a colorful/more dressy pair)
- 2-3 dresses
- A basic white tee
- Sweater (for cooler nights/the beach)
- Sweatshirt
- A good pair of sunglasses
- Your go-to Flip Flops
- A pair of wedges or heels
Then there are the add-on items that you can choose based on your current mood/what you love:
- 4-5 blouses/tops
- 3-4 tanks
- A jumpsuit or romper
- Jewelry
- Hat
- Additional shoes
Here is what I currently have in my closet for this! All items are also linked here.

Now let’s move on to the inspo!!

Below are a few flat lays I took to help show you how you even more options for mix and matching the different pieces to create individual looks. Pretty much anything can be layered with a jean jacket to change up the look and changing up your accessories or shoes can really make a difference.
