Staying Above the Wellness Line

4 Oct 2018 Home, Wellness

Life & Style blogger, Liz Joy, shares how she and her family stay above the wellness line. Including tips on how she helps to support and prevent sickness.

Hi Friends! Tis the season! Colds, flu, stomach bugs, ugghh. Right now I am fighting a cold that Grace passed to me last week but it’s minor and totally manageable. So was Grace’s thanks to our essential oils 🙂 The most common question I get with EO’s is, I have a cold what can I use? My kids have a cold, what can I use on them? What if I am pregnant and/or nursing and I have a cold, what can I use? SO I am going to answer your questions today in this post.

FIGHTING COLDS

Here is my current regimen to fight off this cold which again, is a minor one.

As soon as I start to feel run down or like I am catching something, I turn to my Inner Defense supplement. It’s a liquid softgel and I take this twice per day.  The supplement reinforces systemic defenses.  That means it creates unfriendly terrain for yeast/fungus, promotes healthy respiratory function, and contains potent essential oils like oregano, thyme, and Thieves which are rich in thymol, carvacrol, and eugenol for immune support.

I also roll Thieves onto my feet and the back of my neck in the morning and at night.  First I make a roller ball with 30 drops of Thieves for myself and then fill the rest with fractionated coconut oil. I think this helps so much!! ** There are certain points on the body that you should focus on when applying oils topically.  This is because they have a more efficient absorption rate; right at location (i.e. if you have a headache, apply peppermint to your head) feet, ears, temples, abdomen, upper back, wrists, and the back of your neck. I also just got ImmuPower, another immune supporting oil which has Hyssop, Oregano, Frankincense, Clove, etc…

I diffuse Thieves or ImmuPower throughout the day when I’m at home.  For example, right now I’m working and I have Thieves and Orange in the diffuser.  And not only does it smell like Christmas but I’m breathing in immune supporting EO’s while I work.

I use Thieves cough drops, they are SO good and I’d rather suck on these than the other stuff when my throat is scratchy.

RESPIRATORY SUPPORT

For respiratory support, I use Raven. At night I use it to help open up my airways and make breathing easier. Then I also make a chest rub with it.  You can just add a couple drops to the palm of your hand with a carrier oil like fractionated coconut oil to rub it in. It helps SO much and is the natural Vicks.  Another tip is to drop it into your shower and it helps SO much.

I have one or two servings of Ningxia Red, an antioxidant powerhouse drink, every day and I swear by it! One serving has the same amount of antioxidants as 800 blueberries! It’s also yummy and the kids love it. I add it to their smoothies in the morning and actually they like to drink it in shot form.

FOR KIDS

For Brian and Grace it’s really the same thing. They don’t take Inner Defense but they take the MightVites vitamins everyday so we continue on with that. I diffuse Thieves/ImmuPower around them when they are home and at night in their bedrooms. Their Thieves rollers have a little less than mine, 20 drops instead of 30.  The Kidscents oils are also something I’ll use on them.  Each one is pre-diluted.  And there is one called SniffleEase which I use on their chests and upper back at night.

It’s amazing how much these oils help! I love that I have a natural line of defense in my little “at home apothecary” when we come down with colds, etc.. I of course, still believe in modern medicine but I do like to try my oils first, and they usually work! The peace of mind I have from this is INCREDIBLE.

NOTE IF YOU ARE PREGNANT OR NURSING

*If you are pregnant or nursing, rest-assured oils are safe, but always ask your doctor. There is also a great booked Gentle Babies that gives you all the information you need while pregnant and nursing.

I can not claim that anything will work for everyone, I am sharing my experience and that can vary from person to person.

WANT TO KNOW MORE?

If you’d like to sign up for essential oils, you can get a starter kit which will have lots of the oils I referenced here, plus a sample of Ningxia, Thieves household cleaner, samples, and a diffuser. You will be supported by me, and hundreds of other women (and men!) who have jumped in on this oil train. And We have two really active facebook groups for people learning how to use them, classes, literature, and basically an open line of communication so we know that you are equipped with everything you need to get started.

Sign up using this link >> bit.ly/purejoyessentials 🙂 You do not need to sell oils by signing up, nor do you need to order anything monthly. Both those options are available to you, whenever you want, but are by no means a requirement. The business IS really fun though, and I’ve gotten to see so many women launch businesses from home which has been incredible!

Here are some of the accessories I use to make my roller bottles and sprays:

We’re currently in Phase 1 of our Costa Rican ad We’re currently in Phase 1 of our Costa Rican adventure. This is the two week decompression period where we train our bodies and minds to slow down (this is more for me than anyone else), and let me tell you, I’m lapping it up. We’re spending all day outside at the beach, going to bed early, eating lots of fresh fruit and healthy foods, swimming in the ocean, I’m working out and meditating in the mornings, and having fun together. For someone who is usually always in high gear, this part is my gift to myself 🐚

We are staying at a beautiful place in papagayo with @exclusiveresorts and it feels very luxurious and restorative.

The kids are already thriving. Being together 24/7 comes with its arguments and fights but they are learning how to just be with each other and with their crazy little brother. They’re helping a lot with him, learning a little Spanish, surfing, writing in their journals, and meeting kids from all over the world who are staying here as well.

I’m letting us get pampered for this phase, and it feels really good.

Thanks for coming along, I hope your year is off to an amazing start! Is there anything specific you’d like me to share about while we’re in this phase? I was thinking about sharing my morning workouts and meditations, but let me know!
Recently, I downloaded the Melissa Wood health app Recently, I downloaded the Melissa Wood health app @melissawoodtepperberg @melissawoodhealth and so far I’m loving the workouts. I try and do one every morning. They’re super quick so sometimes I do two. I like that they are gentle but hard. They incorporate a lots of yoga, pilates, breathing, stretching, balancing and all that good stuff. You can see from the videos I’m pretty shaky in the first couple clips, that balance is tough but I’m building up my strength, I can feel it 💪🏻
