Grace Not Perfection by Emily Ley

19 Oct 2016 Uncategorized

Gals, I got the Emily Ley book Grace not Perfection in the mail last week and it’s kind of changing my life. They may have had the bookmark in the right place but I opened up to where that pretty little ribbon was sitting and read this passage:

“Our time with our little ones is so fleeting. It’s both the fastest and slowest time of our lives. And for many of us, beginning motherhood coincides with a lot of other life milestones. Our careers may be taking off. Our parents are getting older. We have big responsibilities and so many things beeping and buzzing to notify us that we’re needed. Our minds are consumed with bills, to-do lists, behavior issues, comparisons, and attempts at doing everything just right. And all the while, our little ones are growing another quarter of an inch. Their chubby thighs are slimming. Their wobbly walks are steadying. If we don’t purposefully and intentionally slow down, free our hands, walk away and say no, this precious, messy season of life will pass us by”

— Emily Ley

I’m facing this crazy emotional time right now, Grace is getting older and bigger before my very eyes, she’s turning into a little firecracker of a girl (the doctor at her 15 month check up said “she’s a feisty one, eh?”), and Brian, my baby, is turning into a BOY. When we went away on Saturday night and came back on Sunday, I swear he got larger in size…it’s going SO FAST and I’m worried I’m missing too much being consumed in work and everything else having to do with life as Emily mentions. Every night I’ve been going to bed and reading her book, and I swear it’s changing my daily habits for the better. This morning as this kids were having breakfast and during the time I’m usually trying to either get housework or dishes done while they eat, I sat down at the counter and was singing with them. We sang B-I-N-G-O and Old McDonald, and Grace was singing Eee-Iii-Eee-Iii-Ooo all day (heart broken emoji). I took them to the beach in the afternoon and played in the playground with them. I left my phone in the car and while we were in the house, I made a conscious effort to leave it in another room. I’ve got to find that balance that I constantly struggle with, when to shut work down and be present, and when to say “I’ll be back in a little while” and hustle as I turn this passion of mine into  thriving business. Why is it so hard??

So yeah, get the book if you feel like you’re being pulled in a million directions, she gives you practical advice on planning and throws in bits of personal experience and faith, and it’s relatable to everyone, I recommend it full heartedly. I’m only a little bit into the book but the changes I’m working towards are less time on my phone, and heavier planning and scheduling. I’d like to be able to devote chunks of time so I can be 100% in whatever it may be at that time, mom, wife, work, housework, etc… I also may be cutting back to M-W-F posts instead of trying to get one in everyday. I hope you all continue to tune in on those days and I promise I’ll make ’em good!

On that note, I would love to hear from you, what do you like seeing and reading about on PJH, please comment below!

Love you all, and thank you for your continued support as always.
