Our big home renovation is getting closer to the finish line everyday now! It’s been such a major focus for us that I have neglected to get our smaller spaces holiday ready. But yesterday was the day! I prioritized a few home projects that have been on my list and styling the bar cart was right at the top. We are hosting Thanksgiving this year and while it’s still some time away, we are going to be super busy over the next few weeks so it felt really good to get it done and I really LOVE the way it turned out! So I thought I would share some tips for styling your bar cart.
Styling Your Bar Cart
This is one of my favorite pieces in our home as it’s really functional, stylish and so fun to change up the decor with each season. I love thinking about ways to change up the look depending on the time of year and thought it might be helpful to share the few tips I use to make it look just right!
1. Placement
The first thing is to decide where the bar cart will go. Think of a place where it can be a focal point but also that will be functional. I put ours in our living room as we entertain a lot in there and it’s so nice to be able to quickly reach for glasses, wine, etc. and not have to run back and forth to the kitchen.
2. Function
Invest in really beautiful glassware and an ice bucket that you actually want on display. I love how my glasses look on the cart and it’s a space saver for our cabinets. A tip is to hide the bottle opener in a really pretty container (on top of the books pictured below) so again I can get it when I need it. It can be awkward when I am at someone’s home and the drinks are in their refrigerator. Maybe it’s just me, but it seems a little invasive to get myself a drink in that way. Therefore, I look to make it inviting for my guests to help themselves and feel right at home!
3. Style
Think about your own personal style and infuse it wherever you can. I tend buy decor items that all go together so I can easily interchange them when I want to spruce up the space. Books are essential decor pieces in my home. I’ve collected ones I really want to read but also happen to look really stylish. Then depending on the time of year/holiday we are celebrating I will sprinkle the holiday items throughout but without being overpowering. Next, I will add in my letter board to add a fun spin to the space with silly quotes and the kids have a fun time helping me put the letters on. Then have fun when you are putting the pieces all together! Most of all, trust your eye, don’t over decorate, and look for balance when it all comes together.
4. Surrounding
I then like to make sure I have pieces in the room that compliment the cart. For instance the artwork that goes right above it which also helps to draw your eye to the space. As well as the garden stool and baskets that can rest right by the side.
